What current fuel prices mean for EV running costs
At 153.5p/litre for petrol, a car doing 40 MPG costs 17.4p per mile in fuel. A car doing 50 MPG costs 14.0p per mile. A diesel at 55 MPG costs 13.9p per mile.
At the current 26.1p/kWh Ofgem price cap rate, an EV doing 3.5 miles/kWh costs 7.5p per mile charging at home. On a dedicated overnight tariff at 7p/kWh, this drops to 2p per mile — but relying on public rapid charging at 79p/kWh pushes it up to 22.6p per mile.
